The National Association of REALTORS made a big step last week toward reaching their goal of establishing a national data base of very parcel of real property in the U.S. by acquiring technology from LPS Real Estate Group. NAR has acquisition includes data and secured data aggregation services which NAR will use to develop the Realtors Property Resource, a parcel-centric information database covering all of the more than 147 million property parcels in the country as a resource to NAR members. NAR is planning to launch RPR int he second quarter of 2010.
This project is one of NAR’s “Second Century Initiatives” which were released back in May, 2007. As a member of the NAR MLS committee I know one concern expressed by members has been that this may be or become a nationalMLS however NAR has held steadfast that it is not. NAR CEO Dale Stinton said, “RPR is not a national MLS and will carry no offers of cooperation and compensation. It is a private, NAR members-only benefit. ”
RPR will provide nationwide access to public record information such as tax and assessment data, liens, zoning, permits, environmental information, and information on neighborhoods, school district and community demographics, along with advanced search features for property searchers, as well as market-to-market comparisons and referral opportunities not currently available.
