This morning the S&P/Case-Shiller Index report for September was released showing that home prices in the US increased in 3rd quarter 2009 by 3.1 percent (seasonally adjusted) from 2nd quarter. According to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices, home prices in July declined 12.8 percent from a year ago in their 10-city composite and 13.3 percent in their 20-city composite. On a positive note, all 20 metro areas showed an improvement in the annual rates of decline when comparing July to June.

Today the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) reported that U.S. home prices rose 0.3 percent on a seasonally-adjusted basis from June to July and are down 4.2 percent for the past year.
